Fashion ArticlesHow to Become a Fashion Model
Most women have probably dreamed of becoming a fashion model at some point in their lives. Modeling is often seen to be one of the most glamorous jobs out there. You get paid handsome amounts of money by staying beautiful and by wearing clothes--what kind of woman will say no to this job? A lot of men have also found this job to be very appealing.
But since there's a lot of pay for very little work (or so we perceive it to be), competition is also stiff. This competition has driven the admission to sometimes-ridiculous levels. Now it is very difficult to become a fashion model especially if you are not tall or thin enough to make the cut. This obsession with thinness has driven a lot of models to eating disorders and self-pity. Unfortunately for many people, it is the kind of the job for which you can prepare. Like writing, dancing, and singing, modeling is one of those jobs that you can either do from the start or you can't. When you don't have the necessary 'entry' requirements, then better drop the dream already and opt for something reachable. Take a look at your hair, your skin, your smile, your teeth--practically everything about you has to be scrutinized and it can be a painful experience for some. If you think you have the initial requirements, then there's still a lot of work to do, but it can be done. It also takes a lot more than physical appearance. You also have to have the personality and the attitude to become a model. This does not mean that you act like a diva (no that is not needed at all!), but you have to be healthy enough to stand the grueling hours involved in modeling. So, you see, the job is not as easy as we may think it is. You also have to have a lot of PR skills because this will be your most valuable asset (aside from your looks and your body, of course) while in the industry. Lastly, you have to have a good portfolio. Find yourself a good photograph that will take good covers of your face and your body. Use that portfolio when looking for an agency--though, seriously, if you are a good material for a cover, you wouldn't need to do that at all because the scouts would have been all over you already before you even search for this article.
