I just recently watched the Madonna episode of Glee (so sue me if I'm very late) and all that I can say is that it's one of the most interesting episodes in the hit TV series. In particular, I liked how much influence Madonna had on the show and the choice of the songs. It was great seeing Sue Sylvester all dolled up to imitate Madonna, but it was even funnier how every female in the school in that episode dressed like her. Yes, I don't think we can overestimate the influence that Madonna had on pop culture. She is often cited for transcending usual gender barriers and for empowering women through the power of her music and her songs' lyrical content. She became a lightning rod for a changing society and for religious controversy. But since is the Fashion Blog, let's stop talking about her music and concentrate on Madonna's fashion influence instead. It was the 1980's. Power dressing became a very important factor, as well as brand names. Almost every female looked up to Madonna for something to follow. I think one of her most important contributions is the re-entry of the cone bra. Madonna wasn't the first one to introduce it, though. The Maidenform brand, one of the most famous bra brands back in the 50's, was the first company to introduce the pointy Chansonette bra. Popularly known as the "bullet bra," the garment sold over thirty million pieces worldwide. It was only two decades later when Madonna popularized this kind of bra. Eventually, women from all over liked it and started to wear it over their outer clothing. Every now and then you get a few personalities getting their inspiration from Madonna. Today, we have Lady Gaga who is just as weird as Madonna during her time. But nothing could beat Madonna when it comes to fashion influence. You can't just put telephones over your head, right Lady Gaga?
