It doesn't sound like the kind of things that you will see in a fashion show, but American fashion designer Michael Kors brought us to the African safari through his New York Fashion Week collection dubbed as "memories of Africa." This particular year is a very special one for Kors as his label celebrates its 30th year in the business, so he only made it sure to come out with unique designs that evoke memories of wild Africa on the runway.

The spring of collection of Kors is not without inspiration. Kors took on three separate trips to the African safari, giving him the images in his mind that he needed in order to fuse together the glamor of the runway and the wildness of African prints. It takes a lot of guts to veer away from traditional designs, but that courage to do something new is what actually sets Kors apart from many established designers.

Models came out into the runway with dresses, shoes, skirts, and everything else having zebra stripes and leopard prints. Spartan sandals are a staple, while the ladies are adorned with big snake-like belts to keep their safari outfits in place. Ponchos and animal-print swimsuits also mark this tough African-inspired collection. The textures of the fabrics look rough and the cuts of the edges raw, quite different from his previous show, wherein he paid homage to the sophistication of life in the Big Apple.

The models themselves looked on appearing like they are globe trotters on an expedition into the wild corners of Africa. The idea is actually fun, adventurous, and enjoyable at the same time. You cannot get any more feminist than this.
