No matter how much people tell you at work or outside that your appearance does not matter anymore as long as you do well in the things that you actually do, it is still a fact of life that a lot of people will still judge you based on your appearance. As a man, it is your obligation to make a good first impression on the people that you meet and a good continuing image among the people that are already around you. This is the harsh truth that we all have to accept. Most of the time, making a decision related to our first impression of another person is unconscious behavior. So if we want to get the most out of our interactions, we have to avoid the possibility of generating negative unconscious decisions by looking our best anywhere anytime. The stakes get compounded when we think of the possibility that the people we will meet may be a future employer, a future friend, or even a future lover. One concept that we all have to take into heart is power dressing. Power dressing is the style of clothing whose goal is to make a person more authoritative and competent. The idea here is that if one dresses like an authoritative and competent individual, he will eventually act like one, and this is further impressed on people that go around us. Furthermore, dressing like a professional improves our own self-discipline, which could go a long way in avoiding situations where our reputation may be compromised. Preparing clothes that are fit for a professional does take time. You have to iron your jacket well, pick a tie that goes perfectly with your shirt, shine your shoes, and all those little stuff that we often overlook. If you decide to dress in a respectful manner, it will take you time and a lot of money. But for all the respect and admiration that you will get for a first impression? It's all probably worth it.
